Popular since 1938, Syringa vulgaris ‘Sensation’, a bi-colored Common Lilac, has stood the test of time. Its unusual purple blooms have a creamy white edge and appear mid- to late season. If you visit our nursery in May, you’ll find Syringa vulgaris ‘Sensation’ in bloom by the Tree Peony grove.

Lilacs are among the best-known spring-flowering shrubs. For reliable bloom and sweet fragrance, generally before Memorial Day, these sturdy shrubs are in a class by themselves. Most Lilacs prefer full sun and neutral-to-slightly-alkaline soil.
